2026 Saturdays Series in Cambridge
2026 Saturdays Series in Cambridge
Get ready to fold, tear, and create! This summer, the 5U3 Workshop is bringing the vibrant world of Japanese paper arts to The Foundry.
It's all about unplugging to make art, have fun, and explore a new culture together.
Whether you join us for a single Saturday or dive into as many sessions as you like, your child will walk away with unique handmade treasures and the skills to keep the "paper fun" going all summer and beyond.
All materials and tools are included—just bring your creativity!
Schedule:
We gather on Saturdays for one-hour sessions throughout the summer. Sessions run either 10-11am or 4-5pm. Check the sign-up form for each date's time.
June: 6, 13, 20, 27
July: 11, 18, 25
August: 1, 15, 22, 29
Location: The Foundry (101 Rogers St. Cambridge)
Guidelines for Families:
These workshops are designed for children ages 6-12. To encourage shared creative discovery, one caregiver is invited to join for FREE. We require a caregiver to stay and create alongside children under the age of 8.
What We Will Make Together
The Paper Kitchen: "Cook" up your favorite treats using only colorful washi, repurposed papers, and your imagination!
Chigiri-e My Name (Japanese): Decorate your name in Japanese by using colorful papers with Chigiri-e (traditional hand-torn paper) technique.
Cool Summer Breeze: Design your own Uchiwa (Japanese handheld fans) with bright colors and Chiyogami patterns.
Weave a Tapestry: Use a mix of textured paper strips to interlace colorful patterns and make your own mini paper tapestry.
Wish Upon a Star: Celebrate the Tanabata star festival making colorful decorations and Tanzaku (wishing papers).
Chigiri-e Alphabet (English): Do you have a favorite alphabet? Color them with Chigiri-e (traditional hand-torn paper) technique using different textures of papers.
Mini Flower Basket: Build a tiny basket and "plant" a bouquet of colorful tissue flowers using chopsticks.
Chigiri-e Stationery: Use the traditional hand-torn paper technique to decorate bookmarks for your summer reading or postcards to send someone special.
