What comes to your mind when you hear "Japanese paper"? Washi, Origami, Chiyogami, or beautiful wrapping papers used for Japanese sweets?
There are so many ways to enjoy arts and crafts using these papers! We offer both traditional and contemporary ways to explore the world of Washi through fun, hands-on activities. Single sessions or a series are available for you to learn different techniques and create your own artwork.
Paper maneuvering and manipulation arts
Folding (Origami & Chiyogami): Create beautiful decorations and practical items.
Tearing (Chigiri-e Relaxation): Relax and feel the texture as you create "torn-paper-pictures".
Cutting (Kiri-e): Challenge yourself to cut intricate patterns, garlands, and animals.
Weaving (Washi & Chiyogami): Use a mix of Japanese papers to weave your own mini paper tapestry or Uchiwa, a handheld fan.
Layering (Hariko): Learn Japanese papier-mâché to create 3D objects.
