What You Can Expect
Designed as “Analog Sanctuaries,” our workshops offer a mindful space for you to unplug and recharge. Participants leave refreshed, taking home their own unique handmade art, a sense of shared creative joy, and the foundational techniques to keep creating at home.
Washi Ambient Light workshop
Saturday, August 29
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Welcome the change of seasons by making a custom shade for a mini cordless light. In this workshop, you will use the Chigiri-e technique of tearing and layering Washi (Japanese paper) to decorate your light with simple autumn motifs like falling leaves or harvest colors. We will work with the natural translucency of the paper to create a soft, diffused glow. Join us for a quiet, tactile session to create a unique piece for your home as the evenings begin to cool.
Mindful Japanese Paper Arts: An Introduction
Thursday, October 22
6:00 - 8:30 pm
Step away from screens and unwind in a welcoming, tactile workshop designed to help you slow down and destress. You will explore the rich textures and calm, meditative techniques of traditional Japanese paper crafts. While sessions center on Chigiri-e (the art of “painting” with hand-torn paper), you will also discover other beautiful forms of paper artistry. Guided by a philosophy of relaxation over perfection, you will learn to layer colorful fibers, fold and cut beautiful papers, and take home a peaceful practice you can easily continue in your own space.
Autumn Foliage & Decor workshop
Friday, November 13
6:00 - 8:30 pm
Celebrate the changing season by unplugging and capturing the rich, vibrant colors of autumn foliage. In this relaxing workshop, you will use traditional Japanese paper arts—focusing on Chigiri-e (the art of “painting” with hand-torn paper) alongside other paper crafts—to fashion small, beautiful decorations that add a warm, handmade touch to your home just in time for friends and family gatherings. Join us to slow down, inspire and get inspired by fellow participants, and enjoy a screen-free space. Come layer rich foliage colors, fold beautiful paper remnants, and leave with unique accents for your holiday table.
Winter Reflections & Festive Decor workshop
Friday, December 11
6:00 - 8:30 pm
Step away from the busy holiday rush and join us for a relaxing evening to unwind. In this workshop, we will take a little time to look back on the passing year while creating beautiful, handmade decorations. Using traditional Japanese paper arts—including Chigiri-e (the art of “painting” with hand-torn paper) and other paper techniques—you will create unique festive pieces to keep or share with loved ones. Whether you are crafting for Hanukkah, Christmas, or simply honoring the end of the year in your own personal way, this inclusive, screen-free space welcomes all traditions.
